What Could Be The Next Silicon Valley If Possible?

After doing my readings and presentation on Silicon Valley's history and their modern day society it's hard to believe that other technology industrial districts can compete. After googling around the web most people also believe that their is a very likely chance that Silicon Valley will be number one for a very very long time.

But, I found something interesting from an article I would like to share.

The Next Silicon Valley is... - by Nikhil Basu Trivedi (substack.com)

This article discusses how there can't be another Silicon Valley geographically but the regions mindset and culture can be found elsewhere.

This is an interesting thought as I personally believed Waterloo or even the Toronto area in respect could potentially be the next Silicon Valley. This article brought to light how Waterloo as an example has the mindset of innovation and technological development and even entrepreneurial tendency's too.

Question:

So in a quick question I would like to ask if you guys think Waterloo has the same mindset and culture that Silicon Valley has?

With retrospect I'm assuming nobody has lived or possibly even visited Silicon Valley (myself included) it may be hard to grasp what Silicon Valley really is and make a comparison. But considering my fellow students have lived at least 1 year in the waterloo region and have been presented with a presentation on Silicon Valley's current and past ideologies, focus, etc, can you draw any comparisons or similarities from Waterloo and Silicon Valley?

  1. Hey, great post!
To answer your question, I think that Waterloo does have what it takes to be comparable to silicon valley. Other than silicon valley, I'm pretty sure waterloo has the highest startup density than anywhere else in the world. But the main reasons why I believe this is because of how similar the cultures are when it comes to tech and the community surrounding both. The collaborative atmosphere is similar with the amount of like minded individuals that are in such a close proximity. The Universities in the area being able to help out along with the government as well as other companies that give startups financial and technical support and advice, and one other thing that probably doesn't get talked about as much but living in Waterloo is much easier. The rents are cheaper, theres more homes available and it just has a different feel than somewhere like silicon valley would I'm guessing.
